During the past few years, the Wheeling Housing Authority has
implemented several changes. These include the HOPE VI
project which will be completed during 2005. This project
provided for the demolition of older, outdated public housing
units with new energy efficient units that greatly improved the
living conditions of the residents and the appearance of the
neighborhoods where those units are located.
In addition, the Wheeling Housing Authority has utilized
funding received under the Capital Fund Program to improve the
other public housing units it manages.
The Wheeling Housing Authority faces many challenges over
the next several months and years. The current budget
climate in Washington, D.C. is presenting several challenges
for WHA. As a result, all areas of the housing
authority's operations are being reviewed to ensure that we
are as efficient as possible and to continue to assist as many
families as possible.
